You can connect either brake to either lever. It will be fine.

The front brake can use the left lever and the cables crossed in front of the stem if you want to keep left/front and right/rear.

It doesn't matter. Either way will work. The only difference is cable length and how the cables are routed.

I've never heard of left/right difference between UK and other brakes. I've always thought the parts and setup were the same all over the world but I could be ignorant.
