A $12 shipping charge to get it in 2 weeks was unacceptable since it actually made the price higher than ordering it with Prime. I think they waive the shipping charge for orders over $99, but I really didn't want to buy something else to hit the magic number when I pretty much don't like their selection on anything. And the 2 weeks is a real turn-off in this day and age.
I do the same thing. I look at Performance and Nashbar for the technical specs, and then order the part from Amazon. With free one day shipping now, there's no reason no to. And I don't get jacked for sales tax, either, although I'm sure that will be coming.
