I agree. As a former somewhat heavy drinker (nearly 5 years sober), I never peach abstinence to anyone, even friends and family that should stop drinking. I didn’t want to hear it when I was drinking, had to make that decision myself.

I’m part of the population that cannot drink moderately. I can start off with one or two beers a few times a week, but will gradually ramp it up to a lot more that. Regardless of what any study says, I will never touch alcohol again, I won’t even eat foods cooked with alcohol. To me and others like me, the downside of drinking far outweighs any positive effects.

The good thing is I’ve been to many post ride and other events where beer and stronger drinks are available. I’ve politely refused a serving and no one has ever asked why or tried to encourage me to partake.
