Speaking of cadence, another cyclist expressed interest in a new, larger crankset to avoid spinning out on a 50/11 combo on descents at ~35mph. Looking at gearing calcs, that works out to 100rpm. It just baffles my mind that someone a) considers that "spinning out" and b) that their first inclination is to change their equipment rather than doing a smidge of work to be comfortable at a cadence that's not terribly unusual during a typical ride.
He needs to go 53-39 and stay in the big ring all the time.
