The money you save will buy you a Brooks.

Here's an old Bridgestone that I had for a while. The color grew on me.
Case in point, I now own (caretaker) of a 1982 Bridgestone Spica (older than your Bridgestone). I considered 700c wheels. But brakes would have to be altered. I need a front tire at minimum on my Spica as that tire is rotted original. Paselas for my use case are just fine. I plan on 27 x 1 1/8 as a livelier upgrade in Paselas and new tubes. New bar tape, mechanical overhaul of all bearings. Cleaning and detailing. Worn parts replaced as needed. Other than rear tire, original to the bike when new. Add water bottle (saw a modern Red cage which matches my Spica's metallic red paint job, very nice survivor original). Cost me $20 last week, will spend more than that on tires. Shifts and rides nice. I plan on getting it in top mechanical and cosmetic condition which is cost effective. And daily riding it. And enjoying every ride.
