With the small chainring being a 28-tooth, a 46- or 48-tooth would be quite a jump for a single shift. I imagine you would be able to physically install it (on the crankset, adjusting the derailleur height, etc), but it may be difficult to get it tuned so that it shifts nicely. I guess it couldn't hurt to try, right? Chainrings are relatively inexpensive, and you'd otherwise be out only a little time.
Thanks hokiefyd, Yes that does sound like a big jump to make for the FD. I might end up changing the smaller one as well then lol. Will need to check if there is enough clearance for that as well.
