Our 2003 Speedster came with V-brakes, Avid 7, set up with Travel Agents, drop bars of course, Shimano brifters. This has all worked like a charm. Stops the bike. No rim brake is going to stop the bike like a disc. Not possible because of the necessary large travel for the pads. But our system has worked wonderfully for us over the years. We use SwissStop green pads. The Travel Agents have not been a problem.

The main thing we've discovered is that if you're going to ride the thing hard or ride in hilly terrain, you must have deep aluminum rims. We have 28mm deep rims and they work fine. We blew several tires off box section rims before we figured it out. We like our Kinlin XC 279 36H rims.
