I think this is a good question. Some professional thiefs my be stealing for resale and therefore be on the look out for really high end stuff. But based on converstions I've had, I would guess that most people are looking for a joy ride or just to steal for the fun of it. I don't think security through obscurity ever does much good, but on the other hand it probably doesn't hurt either.
