If the group is too large and you are trying to keep it together, the issue I've observed is that the leader starts the pass when the other lane is clear, but by the time it gets to riders further back in the line to pass, they do so even though the lane is no longer clear. I had to yell at a few people doing this very thing on the Minuteman yesterday. They seem completely oblivious because they're so fixated on not being dropped.
