I've only changed chainrings for 2 reasons:
a) Chainsuck. (Teeth wear to slightly hooked profile that won't release chain, resulting in lower chain shoved up into FD.)
b) Pins on backside of large ring getting rounded off, making shifting onto large ring impossible.
