It's not so bad with bar ends or with 'on the bar' shifting. But having to reach down and double shift... yeah, that would get old really quick.

What is nice about half step gearing with a 5 or 6 speed rear end- it's easy to find that gear you want to be in- with a regular triple- the next comfortable gear could be in a different chainring, on the other side of the cluster.
