My new habit is to throw the opener into the back seat whenever I put a bike onto the rack and am headed home. I suppose I'm "lucky" in that the height of the car combined with the style of the rack - fork mount - meant that the impact point was the seat and the seatpost. Toss in a lightweight, roll up aluminum door and the end result was less damage than expected.
But OH the feeling of horror from the split moment you are jarred with the sound of the reality to the moment you assess the damage. Uggh.
Witht resulting damage, I can't even imagine the feeling you experienced 2Rodies. I'm sorry.
