Saturday, I participated in an event called Bike East, run by an advocate called
The Brown Bike Girl. She brings cycling to folks in underserved neighborhoods, who might not realize they can ride bikes for health and frugality. I volunteered as a mechanic and helped lots of folks with their bikes. I rode with them for most of the way of the 20-mile ride, too. We had a police escort since many riders were novices. I even had someone come up to me who wasn't a participant. She just brought her bike for a free tuneup, and she was deeply grateful.
I had to ride 11 miles there and back, too, so I ended up spending many hours on the bike.
