They probably told you that meaning that a wider tire wouldn't be optimized for the "aero" benefits of the rim pairing. OR if you told them about your fork clearances, they might be concerned about a nominally 28mm tire plumping up to 30mm and not clearing your fork. But otherwise, there is no problem with that pairing.
