Perhaps a more informative error message, although one doesn't necessarily want to tell spammers about work-arounds either.
When you click on the icon to add pictures an error message pops up saying you can't until you have 10 posts. Straightforward is easiest, IMO.
Making it more difficult might curb spammers, but it might turn off newbies.
