I have had to replace a chainring with perfectly fine teeth, just because the shift pins got rounded off by wear, and could no longer catch the chain to lift it up onto the ring.
This is an interesting thought. Here is a pic but not sure what a fresh one looks like. Mine appears to have a bulge but not a very big one.

I tried adjusting everything and it sort of works but not perfectly all the time. I'm sort of living with it for now.

Weird SRAM front derailler problem

So maybe a new outer chain ring might be the next thing to try. Will start looking around for one.
