Is riding without joy a requirement for proper "training"? BTW, what are you training for?
I'm training for a half ironman. I need to get up to 1.2mi swim, 56mi bike and a half (13.1mi) marathon. I've done 11 half marathons and a full, so the run part down't phase me, but the other two events... I have a shorter race in late April and the half ironman in May.
I'm just the glutton who wants to be outside as much as possible. Oh, and my 8yo just got a new-to-him Trek MT200 that he's dying to ride.
