It's something interesting to think about. If you go back 50-70 years, cars look very different and have much more tech. But they still run on 4 wheels, have same seating set up and primarily run on gasoline engines - with some electric coming on board. Bikes very similar comparison.
The next 50 years will be interesting. I bet cars change much more than bikes - self driving, all electric, serious design changes especially if self drive...….
I think one will always have the option to pedal a bike vs being 100% electric. Maybe a new design for bikes comes out that doesn't rely on the double triangle - like the aero bike above.
Won't be new. It has been done before. Beam bikes like Softride, Kestrel's KM40 for another. They didn't stick because they lowered power-transfer efficientcy and/or made things more complicated in fabrication or were just plain not UCI-race legal.
