Just got done with this one yesterday.
I had a friend who wanted to get into mountain biking, and he was riding this clapped out Trek 830. It was a bit small for him, too. Well he started getting into it so I traded him his crappy Trek for an older Hardrock I had that was just a bit big for me, but working nice.
Anyways I've been meaning to get this Trek going for awhile and I just got around to finishing the build last nite.
199? Trek 830. Chromo frame and fork.
Acera drivetrain and controls, except for Deore RD.
Some sweet Diamondback platforms.
Some decent, very strong, aluminum wheels with WTB Allterrainasuarus semi-slicks.
Tekro V-Brakes.
I took it out for a shakedown spin today. It's meant to be a round'towner but I had to get it out on a bit of trail to verify it's off-road ability. Shifting is best done with finesse because I beat the Acera stuff half to death when it was on my Kona, but all gears check out and the bike handles wonderfully!
Only thing is that my hands where killing me afterwards. Went out and picked up a pair of squishy Oury grips to replace the Kona ************s. Hope they help.
