You're right - alloy rims over steel does make a huge difference.
I'm sure you know all about this, considering what you did to improve your Traveler.

Ideally, what I would like to find is a lugged Schwinn frame (a cut above a Varsinental) that originally had 27' S6 rims on it. I know many of the older frames had 27" wheels, I guess I should have asked which lugged Schwinn frames came with old steel 27" wheels.
