My first road bike was a Trek 1400. Back then, around 1995, I was broke, recently divorced and very depressed. I had been a mountain biker for years, but my buddies had been trying to get me into road riding for a while. I borrowed $500 from a good friend to buy the used purple Trek and quickly became obsessed with road riding. I found I couldn't be depressed when I was on the bike, struggling to stay on the wheel of my friends who were much stronger than me. Now, I am still a serious road rider. No matter how many Treks may be flooding the roads, I will always have a soft spot in my heart for that old Trek 1400.
BTW, I did pay back that $500 to my friend!
