Cassette and Odyssey Gyro problems
Good Morning Bike Mechanical Problem Solvers:
I work for a non profit repairing bikes for give away and sometimes come across problems, of which I have 2 right now and need help.
1) I am working on a Specialized Rockhopper ATB with an 8 speed cassette rear wheel. The cassette/freehub body is dragging against the hub shell. I have spray lubed it for over 2 days and nothing is getting better. In its present condition, when I install the complete wheel on the bike, the drag of the cassette body is causing the chain to bunch up against the crankset because it is not freewheeling. I have a feeling that the grease inside has turned to the consistency of beeswax. Is there a way of lubing it from the outside to make it work ? I would hate to have to disassemble the cassette/freehub body because I believe I have to a)remove the axle b) needs a special tool (?) to unscrew the body from the hub shell 3) 2 sets of ball bearings and/or pawls may fall out.
Pretty sure I/we do not have this special cassette/freehub removal tool. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated ! The rest of the bike is in great condition.
2) Working on 2 BMX bikes with the dreaded Odyssey Gyro detangler system , so the handlebars/fork can turn 360 degrees. Problem on both bikes is that I cannot get the rear brake to work correctly. The rear brake lever and the rear brake are working fine. On both, the first Half assembly is OK - the 1 cable going into the 2 cable splitter is fine. Problem on both bikes is that the tension from the lower Gyro plate 2 cables into 1 is very poor. The top 2 and the bottom 2 cable adjuster barrels on the Gyro are at their maximum. No matter what, I cannot get the lower half section to pull the rear brake, even though the first half is pulling fine. I do not know if I can purchase just the last half cable-2 cables going into 1 or if they are even available. So, the lower section cable tension is not existent and there is a possibility that the lower half cables may have rust inside. I have checked out YouTube videos but cannot find anything particular to Gyro repair/tension. Help !
Thanks in advance for any and all answers.
