Going with a standard that has a larger bore will lend BB/crankset flexibility. A lot, possibly even a majority, of the current builds with Shimano cranksets are adapted down from a larger BB standard (Trek's BB90 frames are one of the few that can't take a spindle larger than 24mm, and they look to be moving away from that).
