actually it makes a huge difference in the life of the wheel. IMHO, there's no reason someone our size who's not racing should be riding around on less than 32's (and only then if it's an even-dished wheel.) When doing custom builds for folks over 150# I won't guarantee the build if it's less than 32 spokes.
