Maybe its the frame material. For some reason, the only bikes I've gotten rid of have been Al frames. I still have 3 Al frames but something like 3x more steel frames.
I've always liked those Action-Tec style forks; here's some
modern ones in case you want to upgrade. You could also get a rigid fork, from what I understand the headtube is a standard oversize.
