Hopefully a spoke protector will do the job well enough. Andy
She's riding a recumbent tadpole trike with 3 20" wheels.

Assuming 24/46t in front would give you 627% gear range, which is huuuuuuuuuuge. On 19.8 inch tire would give 13.2-82.8 gear inches.
SGS long cage is a bit long for 20 inch wheels. I use rs-4700-gs with 41t capacity with 43t chain wrap with 34t cog. The pulley is dragging on the 2 smallest cogs.I have only a few millimeters inside the 406 rim of ground clearance.
Right now, it's an 11-36T cassette with a 24-38-52 set of chainrings. I suspect in the long run she's going to end up with a 18-33-48 set of chainrings and the same cassette. 10 gear inches or just below is completely normal territory for a trike touring in the mountains.

I have a Hebe spoke protector which says it's for 36t. $3. Hooks behind the spoke flange with 3 tabs.
Hebie Spoke Protection Disc 1040 M5
It's a 32-spoke wheel.
