Part of it is people have gotten so used to "millennials = lazy teenagers/ early 20s" that they just hold tight to that instead of realizing that many of us have careers that are old enough to drive or vote. A number of people have been surprised when I point out that I'm a millennial because they think I'm too old, and a few have even said I can't possibly be.
Same. I'm 37 and right on the edge. It catches people off guard when I remind them where I fit in. The youngest Millenial is something like 24 years old. Well past college age and starting a career.
