recent forms of advocacy I have participated in that seem to have netted some results or have some potential to do some good:

#1 By consistently riding this winter to rehearsals and performances of the theatre company I work with two other members of the company were inspired to ride pretty much all winter as well. We all talked about how it was the fact that we knew that the others would probably ride in that we did too. I am meeting one other company member for lunch in two weeks and going over to a good LBS to pick him out a good commuter and get him set up to ride. I'm meeting another one that has a bike he never rides to take him for a ride in his neighborhood to get him started on it.

#2 Since so many company members commute by bike in the better weather I talked to the theatre administrators and asked if they'd be willing to donate free tickets to the fundraiser for our local bicycle advocacy group. They did and now we've got audience members who will be cycling to some of our performances and are talking about ways to fundraise for both organizations through bike riding events.

#3 I requested bike racks for the new building purchased by the college where I am currently a guest artist. They actually responded and though there are still restrictions by other building owners in the area to a bike rack where I would like to see one placed they are creating more spaces in other nearby locations until those issues can be resolved.

#4 My local bicycle advocacy group is sponsoring a much needed clean up of brush and debris on the MDC bike path that I use pretty much daily on my commutes. When complaints to the MDC seemed to go unheeded several groups have voluntarily agreed to take the bull by the horns and just do it themselves.
