I have an FSA Vero crankset with aluminum crank arms. Installing basic Shimano road pedals (105 or 540s). Over the years I’ve had various cranks and pedals, some came with washers and some didn’t. Usually installed washers with the pedals if they came with them, and ignored if the didn’t. But is there some real guideline to know when you should use washers and when not to?
