My ICE Sprint has Avid BB7 cable actuated brakes. The calipers are not mirror image. The left is mounted above the steering control arm and the right is mounted below the steering control arm. This mounting allows the same caliper to work for both sides. I don't know how the hydraulic calipers are configured.

You could use this same configuration on a front fork. You would just have to braze the mounts so that one caliper is reversed.
