Yes, if you have access to a sandblaster, that makes it quick and easy.
I’ve noticed while looking this up online that often a jig is used when brazing on the cantilever bosses. I assume this is to ensure they are symmetrically placed and also to hold them in place while brazing. Is this necessary or just advised?
Again, yes. But the jig doesn't need to be anything fancy. The fancy jigs allow you to set things up quickly and consistently, which is particularly important in a production environment, but taking time to measure and align also works. This is a simple jig I've used:
