Whew! That's a Load Off..

Although the cold weather persists (10F this morning) the snow and ice have mostly receded from the storm earlier this week. So for the first time in three weeks I left my heavy, studded-tire snow bike at home and rode my lighter, faster, main commuter!

My last ride home on the snow bike, Tuesday, averaged just 9 mph due to lumpy ice. Wednesday, it had already snowed an inch past my 3" limit by the time I was ready to go to work. Yesterday, I had a non-bikeable commitment.

But this sunny morning, rolled out my 2015 Charge Plug and hit the mostly dry road. By the time I left the house it was 18F, Mid ride it hit 23F, but after the midway point the temps fell again to 15F when I rolled into work.

After Tuesday's 9 mph, this morning's 12.5 mph seemed like a land speed record. And the first half I averaged an even higher 13.5.

There were a few shady spots on the side streets where I had to pick my way through the remnants of an ice field, but the streets were 95% clear.

I only had to dismount and walk 20 yards up the one sunless, ice-rink alley where I expected I would have to.

All in all, it was exhillarating!
