This thread refers to MTB cleats. I actually much prefer road pedals with the larger cleats even though it is difficult to walk with them. They feel more stable, and I find it easier to clip in and out of them.
I like the LOOK type cleats. I have a few LOOK pedals or LOOK style pedals with the original cleat design. You can buy cleat covers for those. Get a cobbler to add a heel to your shoe or do it yourself and even road shoes with those cleats can be fairly comfortable to walk in.
