Upgrading Roadbike to dual TT & Roadie
Hi, I'm really wanting to get into TT's but instead of dropping $$ on a TT bike & discovering I don't like it so much, I'm thinking of upgrading my road bike to handle TTs at least until I know I'd like to keep going with it, probably a couple years, then buy a dedicated TT bike. The way I'm thinking to do this is by attaching aero clip on bars (already own) & upgrading my bike to Di2 with a 5 port junction box under the stem. I would wire the clip on bars to have the Di2 shifters at the end & connect the wires at the junction box under the stem while in TT mode. Then, when I want to ride as a road bike, I unclip the Di2 wires from the box & remove the aero bars and viola, I have a clean Di2 road bike.
Can anyone see any issues with this setup? Would having the two holes open in the 5 port junction box expose it to water/etc or are they designed to be safe to use with open ports? Is it this simple or am I missing something? As you can imagine, I don't want to spend $1k+ on upgrading only find out later that there's something wrong/missing etc. I used to have the clip on aerobars on the bike before but I couldn't stand having to get out of position to change gears every few seconds so Di2 would be a requirement if I were to do it this way (I live in a pretty hilly area, so I legitimately have to change gears every 10-15 seconds).
Thanks and appreciate the input!
