I was skeptical until I saw how clean it was. Some decals are missing and some paint scratched but it's solid with no rust to be seen.

Looks like a low end Grizzly, right? Can anyone pinpoint the year and anything remarkable about it? (where it was made, any common issues to look out for, etc...)

It's a red frame with the "campione del mondo 1986-1987" decal.
The serial number I found on the bottom bracket was hard to read (third picture). I think it's 61037060 but the first digit is not 100% clear.
Shimano SIS derailleurs
Shimano SIS indexed thumb shifters
6-speed cassette
Sakae triple crank
Dia-Compe Brake levers
"CS" Cantilever brakes

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

The Boardwalk was a Hybrid bike in the '90s. This is an '87 Alente with three main tubes of ChroMoly and Hi-Ten steel everything else.
