For most of my rechargeable bike doodads -- lights, bike computer -- I use an extension cord with multiple USB chargers built in and outlets for various USB chargers, in case some of my devices require proprietary chargers. It's next to my desk for now, on a metal filing cabinet -- mostly out of consideration for the rare occasions when rechargeable batteries overheat. I've also used an old heavy duty ceramic or earthenware plate to hold portable USB batteries or removable camera batteries for charging.

My video cameras usually get plugged into the PC, in case I want to review or copy interesting video snippets. Usually I just delete the videos and use the PC USB ports to recharge the cameras.

There are other USB extension doodads that plug into computers but some are for data transfer only, not recharging, or vice versa. I'm short of USB ports on my desktop so I don't bother with those. A USB charger extension outlet with multiple ports that plugs into an electrical outlet works fine.
