Hello all!
I am considering purchasing a pair of Kenda K838 tires for my mountain bike as I have heard they are great for the road and pavement. I am going to be using them in the greater Boston/Cambridge area, so I was wondering; has anyone had experience using them in wintry conditions, and do they work satisfactorily in the snow and ice?

From personal experience I can tell you that you cannot ride tires like those in the snow safely. There will be a lot of falling and sliding . Even at lower pressure. It would be like driving on bald car tires.
Five years ago I began using a dedicated winter bike and put Suomi Nokian W-106 studded snow tires on them. For me half the challenge in winter is ice and my studded snow tires' deep tread grips in the snow and the studs allow for control on ice.
There are different levels of studding and tread for streets and trails, etc.
I suggest searching bikeforums for more information on winter commuting...which is kind of split between the commuting and winter forums.
It's what I did over a decade ago, and it changed my life for the better.
