The serial number format is consistent with M-a-t-s-u-s-h-i-t-a, a Japanese company best known for their Panasonic brand bicycles. While most Apollo brand bicycles were manufactured by Kuwahara, the brand was owned by Fred Deeley Imports and as such, they could have the bicycles contract manufactured by anybody. Yours is probably a 1984 model, though I wouldn't rule out 1974. Please post pictures.
