I agree with avoiding the WD 40 it will only attract more grime and I second Simple Green, it works great. You can get it cheap at Home Depot. Just spray some on liberaly let it sit a few minutes scrub a bit with an old tooth brush, hose it off. If you have a shop vac just reverse the hose and blow dry then lube the chain, I use white lightning.
