It's a bog standard bottom pull, normal actuation.
I'm wouldn't presume to recommend any new derailleur for this bike. It's a commonplace front derailleur, and there's tons of similar LX/DX/XTs available. This is C&V so we generally eschew new stuff for old bikes.
