The commonly available welders are not capable. Presumably E+ used thick material because each tab must be able to carry the full load amperage of the system. Calculating the conductivity of the nickel alloy used for the tabs pretty much bears this out. Knowing E+, there was probably some overkill, but it got to the point that the investment needed just to experiment was too much.
