If I am not middle aged, then I can't officially have a mid-life crisis, thus providing me with adequate excuse to spend obscene amounts of my money on titanium and carbon bicycle components. Otherwise the wife is gonna get ticked. I need an excuse, or I'm in big trouble.
Just tell your better half that life is for living, and that you're not getting younger. Also, tell her that if you can have the cool bike stuff, you promise not to ask for a car later. My wife found that logic appealing.
The only problem is what you'll do when you turn 40....
