I see your point. Well, I like 1x setups too, looks so much cleaner on the bike!

I have decided to go for either replacement of existing parts or 1x setup (9 or 10-speed). All depends on the costs. But I'm interested how much 1x setup would actually cost comparing to replace the stuff I already have.

If I go 1x setup:

Front derailleur: Remove completely
Rear derailleur: New, 9 or 10-speed short or medium cage
• Crankset: New, 9 och 10 speed crankset. Remove all the all the chainrings and install a narrow/wide single chainring 50 or 52T to fit the BCD of the new crankset
• Chain: New, 9 och 10-speed
• Cassette: New, 9 or 10-speed

Before I start to look into new parts, could you help me answer the questions below:

1. As it is a e-bike with rear motor hub, are 9 or 10-speed cassettes compatible?
I assume that the 8-speed cassette installed on the bike now means 9 or 10-speed should be ok (All Shimanos 8,9 and 10 cassettes have the same width?)

2. Are all series of Shimano MTB parts compatible with each other? Can I mix all 9-speed crankset (example: Alivio) with 9-speed rear derailleur (example: Acera?) Is it the same with 10 speed parts?

3. I’m correct that if going single 1x setup, all the chainrings must be removed from the crankset and replaced with a narrow/wide chainring?

4. Can I use both short and medium rear derailleur for my setup? Which should I choose?

Thanks
