I used one last year. It was my own stupid fault as I had reused a pin on a chain that I messed up the length on. Chain broke under load mid-ride. I used the quick link and limped back home.
Did the exact same thing on my mtb a few years back, now it's quick links only. Going tubeless was great, eliminated the need for a tube, levers, patches. I have a chain tool, spoke wrench, pump, lots of food.
