[QUOTE=Iride01;21550098]Are you using the old crank arms? I don't remember if you actually stated they are square taper. If so, then the spindle length of the bb you get is a little more important than it is for some of the newer type cranks which just are what they are.

You'll need to get others to tell you about that. I haven't messed square tapers but a few times and certainly only once about 10 years ago when I removed it and replaced it with a RaceFace Cadence crankset and the BB it comes with. So I'm not confident about telling anything about determining what spindle length you need to get.

That bike would not have come with a cartridge BB. It would have been older cup and cone with loose balls. However in the almost 50 years since, it might have been switched to a cartride bb, probaby internal, but possibly with external cups. So as another suggested, take it apart and see if it is currently a cartridge. If so, then there are bound to be some numbers that can give you and us some better information.

I'm not using the old crankset...it was a cottered one. And the bb that was the cup and cone. The new crankset I have is for square tapered.
