Well, as far as I can tell there are three types of BB tools for the newer BBs.

1) the standard cartridge-type BB tool - has a crap-ton of little teeth and is about 1" in diameter. Example: Park BBT-2
2) the standard external bearing BB tool - a wrench-like contraption that has I think 16 teeth ...the hole in the center is just about 2" in diameter. Example: Park BBT-9
3) the tool for ISIS (or similar) BBs that have notches around the outside ring for the tool to fit around - then use a wrench on this interface tool to remove/install the BB. This is for one type of XTR BB and also Truvativ ISIS BBs. Example: Park BBT-8

My point is, if you have a Truvativ ISIS BB, you will need something like a BBT-8 (I found out the hard way). If you have any other type of ISIS or most recent square-taper cartridge BBs, a tool like the BBT-2 should work just fine.
