I have been to several cardiologists and none of them have a clue as to what it is, like they have never heard of it before and reading the above is the first time I have ever heard of someone else having it. I used to have that: rapid, pounding heartbeat at night. Clearly some sort of sympathetic > parasympathetic imbalance, like a dose of epinephrine or atropine. It was virtually always related to alcohol, even very moderate amounts, so I cut way back and it’s gone. I believe a it’s pretty well known effect.
