OK, ironically the most helpful things there were reviews on Amazon, where someone explained that it bolted into the slot of the rear dropout. I can't tell if that's universally true or not, some appear to have other hole positioning. But I guess I only need one solution.

Does the use of a derailleur hanger mean that I can only use solid axles with nuts, rather than modern hubs and QR skewers?
