Does the use of a derailleur hanger mean that I can only use solid axles with nuts, rather than modern hubs and QR skewers?
With exception to Raleighs that were expressly built as 3-speeds (which had narrower axle slots), or bicycles with vertical dropouts or short horizontal dropouts (which don't have space for the hanger - and usually have them built in), the bolt-in fit should be universal.

The hanger can be used with nuts or QR's. Doesn't matter. Raleigh used Q/Rs on hanger adapters on brand new Super Course models in the 1970's, as did many others.
