They have their advantages. The cam gives a variable pull, allowing for greater clearance from the rim while not needed. I'm certain there's a guide published already. You should find it with a Google search pointed to the forum.

The brakes under the chainstay are known for getting mucked up and stealing ground clearance. Unfortunately, the only replacements that use those posts are U Brakes.
